Virtualization subsystems from Storagetek and Falcontor

LOUISVILLE, Colo., and MELVILLE, N.Y., July 31, 2002—FalconStor Software, Inc. (Nasdaq: FALC), a leading provider of network storage infrastructure software, and StorageTek® (NYSE:STK), the storage services and solutions expert, today announced the joint qualification of each other’s product lines.

Previously, FalconStor had jointly tested and qualified StorageTek’s 9176 Disk Subsystem with IPStor™, FalconStor’s storage networking software, and has now completed qualification testing for select StorageTek disk subsystems. This includes StorageTek’s D178 2Gb Fibre Channel disk storage system, a high performance, enterprise-level open systems disk solution, and the entry-level D173, which are manufactured by LSI Logic Storage Systems and sold by StorageTek under terms of an alliance agreement announced in January 2002. The combination of these disk systems with IPStor provides customers with a powerful virtualized disk solution.

“StorageTek solutions address the need for highly-reliable data availability. Our ability to provide customers with an easy-to-use virtualization and storage consolidation solution through network-attached disk storage is enhanced through this effort with FalconStor,” said John LoPorto, StorageTek vice president Solutions. “Our aim is to help customers do more with less, driving their costs down while maximizing return on investment, and this gives them a best of class solution with solid performance.”

“FalconStor will continue to drive its commitment to providing fully interoperable, highly scalable solutions through successful product qualifications with mission-critical solutions such as StorageTek’s disk family,” said Wayne Lam, FalconStor vice president of marketing. “StorageTek is uniquely positioned to provide a combined enterprise-class disk and tape storage solution. Our cooperative approach to the market will further enhance our relationship.”

StorageTek’s D178 is a very high-performance, cost-effective enterprise-level open-system disk solution, giving customers the ability to grow storage at their own pace without over-buying to support future online storage needs. Jointly tested for interoperability in storage area network (SAN) environments, the D178 works with most major SAN hardware and software vendors' products.

StorageTek’s D173 offers both 10 and 14 drive enclosures with a maximum capacity of 5.4 TB, and provides users the flexibility to seamlessly scale from entry-level to enterprise-level performance. This compact, scalable solution gives small and medium businesses, remote users and departmental level customers extensive features and functionality for dedicated storage environments, and for SANs.

IPStor, FalconStor’s storage networking software, enables corporate IT to contain storage management costs and increase storage efficiency by aggregating and provisioning storage resources and services over the network with high performance, security, scalability and availability. The IPStor server runs on off-the-shelf hardware under Linux or Solaris. It supports industry standard protocols such as SCSI, IP, iSCSI, Fibre Channel and SNMP to facilitate rapid deployment and seamless integration with the existing storage equipment and third party management software throughout the enterprise. As the result of its hardware-agnostic architecture, vendor-independent storage services and industrial performance, IPStor has been embraced by major system, storage and appliance vendors and system integrators throughout the world.
